The cooperative started in 2005 with an invitation from the CDI (National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples). Thus, the town deputy organized an assembly where many people of the community gathered to decide about their participation in the ecotouristic project Zaaz Koolen Haá. After a long discussion it was decided to begin construction.
First the cenote entrance, a staircase, the platform, a toilet room and a kitchen were built. After several stages the platforms were enlarged and more palapas, like the front desk one, were built. After some years new activities were integrated, such as zipline and rappel, as well as bike rental, so that the tourists could explore the town surroundings. Zaaz Koolen Haá was part of COTACY (Alternative Community-based Tourism Council of Yucatan), hence it was a part of Co’ox Mayab since its beginnings.
